Gay Judgements

I read an article on msnbc today that me me aghast.
"Court mulls if gay judge can rule on gay marriage" is the headline. What kind of shit is that?
Don't straight judges rule on issues regarding straight marriages?

Here's the article:

My favorite part is where they say "The lawyers insisted that Walker, who was chief judge of the Northern District of California at the time, should have recused himself or disclosed his relationship because he and his partner stood to personally benefit from the verdict."
WTF? Really?
Who would not benefit from equality for all citizens?
I'm confused...
So only if you're gay can you benefit from the legalization of gay marriage?
I wouldn't benefit if my two best friends could get married and be recognized legally as spouses? I sure believe I would and would my children.

By letting one more characteristic of the human existence differentiate people in our society we are allowing more and more room for discrimination.
If gay marriage were legal then they wouldn't/ couldn't be looked up as unequal citizens.

I find the entire thing sickening.

I cannot get over the fact that it is legal to marry your first cousin in more states than it is legal to have a gay marriage! Really people? Really??
Any straight couple, no matter what the circumstances, can walk into any courthouse in the country and get hitched.
They can also walk out and 10 minutes later get a divorce or an annulment.
The rate of divorce in the US is close to 50%, last I heard, and we are going to preach about "the sanctity of marriage"?!?!?!?

Whose business is it who I love?
If you have 2 consenting adults what's wrong???
Nothing!

And if your problem comes from a religious perspective then I have news for you buddy...
This country fought long and hard and STILL DOES for religious FREEDOM!
Not just so you can get on your biblical soap box and talk about your higher power's rules and regulations.
Faith is just that, FAITH. There is no scientific proof of existence for any celestial being.
(I'm not saying there isn't one or that you're wrong to believe in one, just work with me)
BUT there is PROOF, like the scientific, recognized in all nations kind, that states that homosexuals are human beings without any kind of faulty DNA, no learning disorder, no abnormal functions, just regular people like you and me.
Love is love.

Would you want to deny your child to marry their lifelong love?
Gay or straight?

You want your children to grow up happy and healthy.
I know I do.
And that's always the phrase that parents use, whether its about their children's future or the expected sex of the child... happy and healthy.

A person cannot lead a happy life without being recognized as an equal citizen.
Think back to when the Jim Crow laws were in place...
I don't recall any stories of black people feeling EQUAL to white people.
Anything I have ever read talks about how it seemed the whites were so much superior just because of the color of their skin.

So for me, I can't understand how people who feel that all humans no matter their race, religion or creed are equal would deny rights based upon a person's sexuality...
I would not feel comfortable judging someone solely on their race, religion, political persuasion or their income level. Would you?
That's not how I was raised and everyone was taught the golden rule.
Sexuality is the same thing.
Not a place for judgement.
It's a inherent as your eye color.

Another little side note about the quote from the article, would the judge need to recuse himself or have had to disclose himself about whether or not he hold religious beliefs that may or may not influence his opinion on the matter. Basically you could say that if a judge had turned it down and they happen to go to church, that their religion is the reason for the denial. But would you?
Would you feel comfortable saying that the entire reason someone voted on something is simply because they attend church? Then why say that about their sexual persuasion.
I will say that he is probably more inclined to the liberal persuasion about the matter BUT there are plenty of homosexuals who don't want to get married and that's their choice as well.
Just as it was my choice to marry my husband.

So yeah, I can't understand thinking that because someone is different then you that they are bad.
I know that that's not the common feeling, hello Hitler!, but it's my rationale.

I fight loudly and proudly for equal rights because I believe it is not only an injustice to those individuals but to the nation and its citizens as a whole.

Please do your part, vote, send a letter to your congressman.
Get your voice heard.

Equal Rights For All!

For The First Time

I heard the song "For The First Time" by The Script on the radio this morning and really listened to the lyrics for the first time (ha!) and started to cry.
Where was this song 3 years ago when Chris got laid off?!?!?
It just hit so close to home and I thought about his struggle and ours as a couple and how great it would have been to have this song then, dangit!
It really explains the loss of identity and the difficulty in your personal life.
We struggled so hard, we still are on some level, and this song is like a beacon of "It gets better/ You're not alone"
Anyway, so here are the lyrics if you've not paid attention before...

For The First Time by The Script

She's all laid up in bed with a broken heart
While I'm drinking Jack all alone at my local bar and we don't know
how
How we got into this mad situation, only doing things out of frustration
Trying to make it work, but, man these times are hard

She needs me now but I can't seem to find the time
I got a new job on the unemployment line and we don't know how
How we got into this mess, is it God's test? Someone help us 'cause
we're doing our best
Trying to make things work but these times are hard

But we're gonna stop by drinking cheap bottles of wine
Sit talking up all night, saying things we haven't for a while, a while,
yeah
We're smiling but we're close to tears, even after all these years
We just now got the feeling that we're meeting for the first time

She's in line at the *dole with her head held high
While I just lost my job but didn't lose my pride, and we both know how
How we're gonna make it work when it hurts, when you pick yourself
up you get kicked to the dirt
Tryin to make it work, but, man, these times are hard

But we're gonna start by drinking our cheap bottles of wine
Sit talking up all night, doing things we haven't in a while, a while
yeah
We're smiling but we're close to tears, even after all these years
We just now got the feeling that we're meeting for the first time

For the first time
Oh, for the first time
Yeah, for the first time
We just now got the feeling that we're meeting for the first time

Oh these times are hard, yeah, they're making us crazy
Don't give up on me, baby
Oh these times are hard, yeah, they're making us crazy
Don't give up on me, baby

Oh these times are hard, yeah, they're making us crazy
Don't give up on me, baby
Oh these time are hard, yeah, they're making us crazy
Don't give up on me, baby

*I googled "dole" thinking the lyrics were wrong but apparently it's the unemployment line in Ireland

Girl Crush

All the pop music out there right now, like the big heavy hitters, are all girls!
I feel like this is the late 90's all over again and I'm loving it!

I have some serious girl crushes happening right now and I just thought I'd share.

Heidi Klum
Just saw an interview with her on perezhilton.com and she has a shoe line out and a sportswear/everyday line on amazon. Plus, the new season of Project Runway is getting ready to start filming. Can't wait!

Lady Gaga
Loving the teal wig that she's been rocking lately.
Love love love the new album, of course!
Her fashion is ever changing and growing and I can't wait to see what she's up to next.

Rihanna
Even with all the controversy surrounding her latest music video, which I like, her album is solid.
There is no denying that she is rocking this one out and is sooo sexy along the way.

Britney Spears
Hate to admit it, because I hated her for so long, but the Femme Fatale record is grand!
So much fun pop/dance/electronica music that is perfection for summer

Nicki Minaj
What's not to love?
She has crazy clothes, outrageous hair, a banging body and fantastic music!
Love Pink Friday and am obsessed with her in the new Kanye video "Monster"

Florence + The Machine
Just released a cover of a Buddy Holly song and the music video was shot in New Orleans.
So much fun to watch and of course she sounds amazing.
She could sing a phone book and I'd listen.

Nicola Roberts
Just released her first single after Girls Aloud parted ways, or whatever, Beat Of My Drum.
I can't get enough of the song and I ADORE the video.
So upbeat and fun and the video has everything... hot girls, great dancers, a marching band, cute kids... something for everyone!

Adele
Her album, 21, blew me out of the water!
She has the most amazing, sultry, lovely, smoky, classic voice.
It just gives me goosebumps.
And then the power behind those pipes is even more enthralling.
She's fantastic anyway you cut it!

Shakira
Has a new video out for her single "Rabiosa"
She's super hot as usual but I really like the song too.
I've been listening to her older albums alot recently (even though I have no idea what she's saying) and am really looking forward to another one.

CocknbullKid
I think its a horrific name.
I don't care how it flies in the UK, ew.
Especially when the voice and message attached to said name is beautiful.
I heard a couple of her songs and I loved it.
Hopefully I can find her cd stateside because she has huge potential.

Kristin Chenoweth
Always love her.
She just seems so sweet and bubbly and nice and genuine.
She has a new country single out called "I Want Somebody" and its airing on CMT.
The video is kind of... eh, but I really like the song.
If she puts out a country album, I'll be so excited.

So yeah, lots of girly girl stuff happening out there and I'm loving it!

June is also Gay Pride Month and I am looking forward to the Hope Center Gala on the 18th and also the festivities on Market Square on the 25th.
I just love getting the girls and our kids together for a little family time during Pride!

Belated Anniversary and other things

Yesterday, Chris and I were given a belated anniversary present from my parents; they took Rupert for the afternoon so we could go see a movie and have a bite to eat AND on their dime. Best gift ever! :)

We looked at the movies and were shocked that this week there was hardly anything we wanted to see.
Most of the shows we were interested in were not out yet or had made it to the $2 show (whose movies started at really bad times for our schedule) or weren't quite on video yet.

After much discussion, we decided to see The Hangover II. We both wanted to see it anyway, but we didn't know if we wanted to spend the enormous amounts of money that it costs to go to the show on a sequel that might not be any good.

We got our money's worth and then some.
Holy hell balls!
We laughed until we cried.
I was holding my jaw because my teeth sockets aren't completely healed yet and it was starting to irritate them from laughing so hard.

SOOOOO worth seeing.
It's not one of those movies that requires a theatre experience but the lack of interruptions, therefore more focused attention, definitely helps.

We were so happy that we chose to see that instead of Thor or something.
We laughed the rest of the night about how funny it was.

Then we headed to Market Square to have dinner at Cafe 4 because neither one of us had eaten there.
*Side note, I have been there for their gigantic cupcakes and coffee but not food food.*
They have like fancy southern soul food stuff, so we were in carb heaven.
It was awesome.
Chris got the chicken and waffles, new to us both, and ate every bite.
Fried chicken with white gravy, waffles with a spicy sauce drizzled over them, mashed potatoes and green beans. He said the flavor combination was out of this world.
I had the french onion and bacon macaroni and cheese (still trying to stay on soft foods)
OMFG, soooooooo good. Soooooooooooo rich.
I probably ate less than a third of it because there was so much but it was delicious.
We also shared truffle oil and parmesan french fries for an appetizer.
I insisted on ordering these for the novelty of truffle oil on fries.
Once again, soooooooooooooooooo good.
We didn't even have room for dessert, which for me there is always room for, after all of those super heavy foods.

Also, this weekend I got to spend some extra quality time with my bff Adrienne and her little Averielle.
We had been too busy to get together for the past few weeks and we needed our time together dammit!
We hung out on Wednesday night, went shopping and colored AA's hair and then had date night on Friday evening which consisted of more shopping and hair coloring and a few hours of cruising random back roads, chatting and listening to 90s music without the kids. We are the only people who can have so much hysterical amounts of fun completely sober! On Saturday evening, we did it again! But for a little less time and alot less money!
It was so great to get to spend alot of time together, we are so the same person sometimes and it always makes us giggle. :)

In tooth news, I am almost completely healed!
I have two very small openings on the bottom jaw and that's it.
The surgeon told me on Friday morning when I had my stitches out that I should leave the packing out as much as possible because the gums will heal up in no time.
He wasn't kidding!
It's Monday and there's hardly any sign of the wounds left!
I am keeping my fingers crossed that by this coming weekend I can eat crunchy food again!
I have missed chips and salsa, nuts, bacon, vegetables, bread and everything else under the sun that hurts when it gets caught in the gaping holes in my mouth!
Whew hoo!

Rupert got to spend time with Nana, Papa and Keira while Mommy and Daddy went on our date Sunday.
They went up to a creek by the dam and played in the water, chased dragonflies and little fish, threw rocks, looked for salamanders and had a perfectly wonderful afternoon communing with nature.
